This policy applies specifically to the Good2Know app (iOS and Android). Our website good2knowapp.com has its own separate privacy policy, since the website itself does not process any personal data.
Registration and user account
Using the app requires a user account. We collect your email address, a username of your choice, and a password (stored encrypted). This data is used exclusively to create and manage your account and to log you in. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract).
Usage and progress data
To provide the app's core functionality, we store data about your usage: completed quizzes and results, learning progress, streaks (consecutive active days), unlocked achievements, and the number of meal donations triggered by your activity. This data is required for the app to function as intended (e.g. progress display, dashboard). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Storage location
Your account and usage data is stored on our backend (PocketBase), operated by the hosting provider Hetzner Online GmbH (Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany), server location Falkenstein, Germany. Further information: Hetzner privacy policy.
Error and crash reports (Sentry)
To detect and fix technical issues, we use the service Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.). When an error or crash occurs, technical information is automatically transmitted: error message and stack trace, device model, operating system version, app version, and language setting. We have configured Sentry so that no personal data (such as email address or name) is sent by default. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a stable, functioning app). More information: Sentry Privacy Policy.
Local storage on your device
Your login status (session token) and most recently loaded profile data are stored locally on your device so you don't have to log in again every time you open the app, and so the app remains briefly usable offline. This data stays on your device.
Reminders (local notifications)
If you enable reminders, they are scheduled and displayed directly on your device. No external push service is used, and no device token is transmitted to our servers or third parties.
Push notifications
If you separately enable push notifications in settings, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging (a Google service) for this. A device token is generated and stored on our backend so we can deliver notifications to you. This token is technically necessary for delivery and is not used for advertising purposes. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent via activation) or (f) (legitimate interest in a functioning notification feature).
Ad networks and analytics
The app contains no ad networks and no third-party tracking SDKs for advertising purposes (e.g. no Facebook SDK). We use Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to collect anonymised usage statistics (e.g. which screens are viewed, how many quizzes are completed) in order to improve the app — this data is not used for advertising purposes. Sponsor placements within the app are labelled "Ad", are editorially curated by us, and are not connected to any tracking or data sharing with sponsors. We do not sell user data to third parties.
Data recipients
Your data is shared only with the following processors, as necessary for the respective purpose: our hosting provider (storage of account and usage data), Sentry (error analysis, see above), and Google Firebase (anonymised usage statistics and, if push notifications are enabled, delivery of those notifications). Data is not shared for advertising purposes.
Storage duration
We store your data for as long as your user account exists. Upon request, we will delete your account and associated data in full; you can send such a request at any time to the email address above.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account directly in the app:
1. Open the app and log in
2. Go to Settings
3. Tap "Delete account"
4. Confirm the deletion
Once confirmed, your account is deleted immediately and irreversibly. The following data is fully removed: your account data (email, username, password), your entire quiz history and progress, your daily statistics, and your unlocked achievements. No additional retention of this data takes place beyond deletion. The only exception is data we are legally required to retain (currently none).
If you no longer have access to the app, you can also request account deletion by emailing the address above.
Your rights
Within the scope of applicable law, you have the right at any time to free information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients, and the purpose of the data processing, as well as a right to correction, restriction of processing, or deletion of this data. For this and any further questions on the subject of personal data, you may contact us at any time at the address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.
